Frequently Asked Questions
Honest answers to common Airalo eSIM questions
What is an eSIM and how does it work?
An eSIM (embedded SIM) is a digital SIM card built into your device hardware. You download a carrier profile — provided by Airalo as a QR code — onto the eSIM chip. Multiple profiles can be stored and switched in software. No physical card required.
How do I know if my device supports eSIM?
Check Settings for an "Add eSIM" option. Most flagship phones from 2018+ support eSIM. Also confirm your device is carrier-unlocked — a locked device will not accept a third-party eSIM.
Does Airalo eSIM support voice calls?
No. Airalo plans are data-only. Use VoIP apps (WhatsApp, FaceTime, Skype) for calls. Keep your primary UK SIM for receiving calls and SMS.
When does my plan's validity period begin?
Most plans start from first use — when your device first connects to a local network abroad. Some start from purchase date. Always check the specific plan terms, especially if buying well in advance.
Can I use Airalo eSIM as a personal hotspot?
Hotspot is permitted on most plans but not all. Check the plan details page before purchasing if tethering is essential.
What happens when I run out of data?
Purchase a top-up via the Airalo app if your plan supports it. Otherwise, buy a new plan for the same destination — may require installing a new eSIM profile.
Are Airalo plans refundable?
Refunds available for plans not yet installed (QR code not scanned). Once installed, generally non-refundable. Contact Airalo promptly if plans change before installation.
How do I contact Airalo support?
Via in-app live chat (24/7) or email. AiralSimBase is independent and cannot resolve Airalo account or billing issues.
Is Airalo secure for payments?
Airalo uses Stripe for payment processing and does not store full card details. Used by millions globally. Use a reputable card with fraud protection.
Can I use Airalo on a tablet or laptop?
Yes, on eSIM-capable devices. iPads (cellular, 2018+), some Windows laptops, and Chromebooks with eSIM support can use Airalo plans.
How does Airalo compare to roaming charges?
Typically 60–90% cheaper than roaming for heavy data users. Trade-off: data-only, so primary UK SIM handles calls.
How do I remove an Airalo eSIM from my device?
iPhone: Settings → Cellular → select line → Remove Cellular Plan. Android: Settings → SIM Manager → select eSIM → Delete. Warning: permanent — QR code cannot be reused.
